Which ETrike Brands Offer Folding Electric Trikes? Before You Buy a Folding E-Trike…Watch This First

What e-trike brands offer foldable trikes for easy storage?

Hey, everyone. I'm Dustin. I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today, we're going to answer the question: What e-trike brands offer e-trikes that fold for easy storage?

All right. I've got three of our e-trikes here. Two of them fold: our Simple Glide (where the front folds here and features a dual motor) and our EZ Transit, which is our smallest foldable e-trike. All three of these are linked in the description if you want to check them out.

Often, people are looking for foldable e-trikes because they want to be able to fold them, take them along, pack them up in their car, store them in a small place in the garage, or put them in an RV.

The Reality of Folding E-Trikes

Before we talk about where to get a folding e-trike, I want to touch on the reality of folding e-trikes. Even though we offer folding e-trikes and I believe there is a place for them, there are a couple of things to consider. This is true across the entire market, including sixthreezero folding e-trikes: even though they fold, they are not necessarily lightweight or easy to lift.

I can lift our folding e-trike. In a stripped-down fashion, it weighs about 67 pounds. For other e-trikes out there, you have to be careful with the weights, especially once you start adding accessories that might not be accounted for. Often, if they don't come with baskets and you buy front and rear baskets, all those items add weight. So think about why you want a folding e-trike.

If it's simply to put it in the corner of the garage, that's a great option. Or maybe you have a car rack or platform where folding it makes it fit. With our Simple Glide, folding it down slightly makes it shorter to fit on many hitch racks or in the bed of a pickup truck where full length might be too long. Those are good reasons to have a folding e-trike.

Folding E-Trikes and RV Compatibility

Now, I want to address RVs specifically. I have tried fitting our folding e-trike through the door of an RV, and it doesn't work. When these fold down, the width remains the same, making the doors too narrow. Unless you have a back roll-up door or a toy hauler where folding the handlebars allows it to fit inside a utility carrier, 99% of folding e-trikes won't fit through a standard RV door. I've had customers buy trikes thinking they would fit, only to find out they don't. Just be aware of that.

Additionally, folding trikes are still bulky. Even folded, you still have wide tires and a solid frame. Folding saves height when you collapse the handlebars, but the footprint remains wide. For example, our EZ Transit uses 16-inch by 2-inch wheels, so it folds relatively small. But with 24-inch wheels that are three inches wide, it takes up much more space.

Brands Offering Folding E-Trikes

Most brands nowadays offer some level of folding e-trikes, including sixthreezero, Rad Power Bikes, Addmotor, Lectric, and Mooncool. Another brand, Liberty Trike, offers a unique model where the frame splits in half into two pieces, making it easier to transport through an RV door. If maximum portability is what you need, that's a good option.

Be clear on why you want a folding trike and what dimensions you require. Don't limit your options to folding models if you don't strictly need the feature. On our Simple Glide, for example, the handlebars fold down, but the frame does not. Make sure you know whether you need height clearance or width clearance before deciding.
