Which brands offer e-trikes with easy assembly upon delivery?
Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today we're gonna answer the question: which e-bike and e-trike companies offer e-trikes with easy assembly upon delivery? All right, I've got three easy to assemble e-trikes here from sixthreezero. They're linked in the description below if you wanna check them out. This is our Simple Glide dual motor, our Simple Glide 500 watt, and our EZ Transit folding e-trike. All right, I know if you're shopping for an e-trike online, maybe it feels daunting purchasing something that you would have to do any of the assembly on. So I'll touch on something that I know to be true about the assembly of e-trikes.
Some of the, we don't have it out here right now, but we also offer an electric trike called the EvryJourney. It also comes as a regular trike. That's kind of your traditional looking trike. Oftentimes, if other brands have that trike, they actually have it shipped in a small box, and the frame is in two pieces. So when you look at an electric trike, There's your subframe, which is back here, and your mainframe. And this is not one piece, right? These are bolted together back here. This is gonna be the case with all of the trikes that I know of in existence. You have your subframe and your mainframe, they're bolted on. Now, often, or true for us and true for most people, those traditional trikes, because of brands trying to get the shipping costs down to the consumer, they actually have the subframe split apart from the mainframe, and you have to bolt that on yourself.
So if you want to avoid having to do that yourself, you may want to take a look to ensure that, when it comes, it mentions anything about subframe installation. So we only have that one product. Moving forward, all of our other e-trikes come with a subframe attached to the mainframe. And I think, you know, something like 80 to 85% of all the e-trikes out there come that way. The reason now is because, especially our simple glides here, they're already coming in large boxes, and they have to be shipped on a truck, on a pallet. Those, because they're already coming on a pallet, there's no sense in trying to minimize the package size, right? Because it's gonna be an oversized shipment regardless.
So from the consumer standpoint, it's great for you guys because now more and more of these e-trikes are coming basically 90% assembled. So when you're talking about, like, our Simple Glide, everything's gonna come installed except your front wheel and your seat. So there's not a lot of assembly involved, and putting on the front wheel is pretty straightforward. I take that back also. If you have to install the baskets, that's gonna be required, but that doesn't require mechanical skills of any sort. We're just talking about bolting things on, and that's true of the front wheel too. You tighten the bolts, you plug in the cable, and you'll be off and running. So at most, you're going to have to install the front wheel, seat, and any baskets. It takes about an hour, maybe a little more. But again, it's not like you're installing the brakes or installing the gears. And honestly, again, this is true of most e-trike brands.
Now, in the case of the folding e-trike, this one actually doesn't ship on a truck, but because the frame can be folded, it can come in a box that ships via FedEx or UPS Ground. So all you'll have to do is unfold the frame, bolt the front wheel on, and again, bolt on the basket and the handlebars. Ah, and the pedals too, sorry. But the pedals literally just screw in. So it's not too bad. So in terms of the assembly, it's actually really, really easy. We've been in the business of selling bikes now for 20 years. Assembling an e-trike is actually far easier than assembling even a two-wheel bike because most of it comes assembled. And once you get the front wheel on, it's virtually set up, right? And in the case of a folding trike, if you have a folding trike or you have something where it's attached folding like ours is, your stem already comes installed.
Oftentimes on other bikes, trikes, you'll have to install the stem, right? So I would say about 85% of brands out there, the assembly process is gonna be pretty much the same, but you may wanna ask them in advance how much assembly is required. We actually have assembly videos for all of these online, so you can see it. And again, you can see how easy it is. Now, in terms of the brakes and the gears, everything is pre-tuned from the factory. I'm assuming that's true for most brands out there as well. Now, that doesn't mean that because it's pre-tuned from the factory that when it gets to you, it's going to be perfect, but I would say about 70, 80% of the time, it's pretty much where you want it to be. In the case of that, then you'll have to figure out how to tune the brakes a little bit. Again, we have instructions.
It's not super difficult, same with the gears. At that point, you could opt for a mobile mechanic to come out to your house just to do the fine-tuning, right? You could do the, maybe the assembly yourself, save yourself some money, and have them do the fine-tuning. If you feel you need that on the brakes and the gears, and of course, if you test your brakes and they don't respond the way you want, then it's always best to have a professional look at it. So, I would say, try not to limit yourself based on ease of assembly. Number one, you want to make sure you get the right product. And of course, if you don't want to do the assembly at all, a mobile mechanic could come out to your house and do it fully. It's going to range anywhere from 100 to 300 bucks. We have someone that can do it for us at $150. But again, that just depends on your local area and how many mobile mechanics are in your area. So I hope that helps.
