Now, being allowed to ride doesn't mean the rules disappear, and I always want people to understand the framework they're operating in. The e-bike standards most of us ride under put clear ceilings on speed. Pedal assist is generally capped at 20 miles per hour on a lower class and up to 28 miles per hour on a higher class, while throttle-only operation is limited to 20 miles per hour. The motors themselves are limited to 750 watts. I designed them to be compliant with the electric bike standards here in California, which also line up with the rules in most other states. The batteries and your real-world range
Both are powered by 48-volt, 20-amp-hour batteries. On paper that combination is good for a range of up to about 50 miles on a charge, but I always tell people to treat that number as a ceiling, not a promise. Your real-world range varies greatly, and it varies for reasons you actually control.
Rider weight is a factor. So is the terrain you're covering. And the single biggest variable is how you use the electric assist. If you're primarily riding on flat ground and leaning on a low level of pedal assist, that's when you'll squeeze out the most miles. If you're running throttle-only and climbing a lot of hills, that's when you'll see the least range. None of that is unique to these bikes, it's true of every e-bike, but the swing is wide enough that it's worth planning around. If you know you've got a hilly route or a long day ahead, ease off the throttle, use a lower assist level on the flats, and save the power for when you need it. Ride that way and you'll be pleasantly surprised how far a charge takes you.
I also encourage riders to build a simple charging habit and stick to it, the same way you'd plug in a phone overnight. A battery that's cared for consistently rewards you with steady, dependable performance ride after ride, and it takes the guesswork out of whether you'll make it home.
Braking you can actually trust
Both bikes stop on hydraulic disc brakes, and I don't take that lightly on a heavier four-wheel frame. Hydraulic discs give you smooth, strong, predictable stopping power, and you can feel the difference the first time you pull the levers. They stop very well and very smoothly, without the grabby, all-or-nothing feel some lesser brakes have. The modulation matters more than people expect: you can shed a little speed gently or come to a firm, controlled stop, and your hands don't have to work hard to do either.
That confidence pays off exactly when you need it most. When you're carrying a load, rolling downhill, or stopping quickly for something that darts into your path, you want brakes that respond the instant you ask them to. So the geometry works as both shock absorption and a stability aid at the same time. On uneven terrain, instead of the whole front of the bike getting knocked off line, the wheels articulate independently and keep you steady. Ride over a curb cut, a rutted path, or a patchy stretch of pavement and the bike simply flows across it rather than lurching. It's the kind of thing you have to feel to fully appreciate, but it's a big part of why riders step off these bikes smiling.
Reverse, when you need it
Both bikes can back up, which is more useful than it sounds until the first time you're wedged nose-first into a tight spot. You flip the drive switch to reverse and pedal backwards to walk the bike out. Picture backing out of a garage, repositioning at a crowded rack, or squaring up to a doorway; reverse turns a three-point shuffle into a simple, controlled move. The defining feature is the upright riding position. It's reminiscent of a traditional bicycle, with your body stacked over the pedals so you're pedaling almost right below yourself. The recumbent ANYterrain is a different animal, and for the right rider it's the most comfortable thing we make. Where some bikes ask you to adapt to them, this one adapts to you. It's built around the idea that you should be able to sink into the seat, relax, and let the bike carry the effort.
Start with that seat, because it's the heart of the bike. It's big and genuinely comfortable, and it adjusts in ways most bike seats never dream of. You can slide it forward and back to dial in your leg reach, so riders of very different heights can find the exact pedaling distance that suits them. You can tilt it to find the precise angle your back wants. And you can twist it to the side, which is the feature I love pointing out most, because it makes getting on and off remarkably easy.
That twist function deserves a moment, because it solves a real problem. For anyone who finds mounting and dismounting stressful, being able to rotate the seat out toward you, sit down at a comfortable angle, and then settle in changes the entire experience. Neither one is the wrong answer. They're built for two different riders, and the right one is simply the one that fits how you want to feel on a ride.
