Hey everyone, I’m Dustin. I’ve spent 20 years in the bike and e-bike industry, and in that time I’ve ridden just about every kind of two-wheeler, trike, and cargo hauler you can name. The real test of any e-bike is hills, so let’s take one on. Here’s how I set up for a climb. I’ll also bump up my pedal assist. I was riding in level three, and heading into this climb I’ll take it up to level five to get more help from the motor. Then we start our ascent.
This first hill is a decent grade — I can’t always tell how steep it reads on camera, but it’s a real climb. And you can see, no problem. The 750-watt motor pulls us right up it. I’m pedaling along, the motor’s doing its share, and we’re keeping pace without me straining. On a hill like this, it does take a little effort on my part as the rider — I’m putting some real pedaling in, working with the motor rather than just sitting back. And that’s fine. You’re never left stranded halfway up; you just contribute a bit more of your own effort on the tougher grades.
Here’s a real piece of e-bike knowledge worth understanding. Just as important as going is stopping, and the ANYterrain has that covered with hydraulic disc brakes. What I love about hydraulic discs is how smooth and even they are. You pull the levers and it creates a nice, controlled stop — no grabbing, no lurching, just steady, predictable stopping power.
