How to steer a four-wheel e-bike.
Hey everyone, I'm Dustin. I have 20 years of experience in the bike and e-bike industry. Today I'm going to show you how to steer a four-wheel e-bike. All right, this is the Simple Glide four-wheel e-bike from Sixthreezero. It's linked in the description below if you want to check it out. Really cool in that it's very stable and very comfortable. You can see my captain's chair here that can recline. Now, it could recline more if I didn't have the optional roof canopy on. This is an add-on, so you could take that off. So, slide the seat forward and back. You can recline it, find the right position for you. But how do you steer this thing? Now, a lot of people are looking at a more stable riding option, maybe coming off two wheels.
There are tricycles, and there are four-wheel bikes. Now, standard tricycles, your sort of traditional tricycle, there can be a little bit of a learning curve going from a two-wheel bike to a traditional trike. I say traditional trike because we now have new trike options that don't steer and feel like a traditional trike, but some of the older styles still have a trike feeling. So if you've heard anything about trikes, they feel and drive differently than two-wheel bikes. Now, four-wheel bikes drive differently than trikes. Really, a four-wheel bike, honestly, it feels more like steering a car in that wherever you turn the wheels is where you go. Now, the reason people feel uneasy on trikes, right, is because you have three wheels and there's this feeling like you're going to tip. You're not going to tip on this thing. It is..
That's well planted on the ground because of the elongated frame and the four wheels and the three inch wide tires. I mean, we are safe and secure, and we're not going anywhere. Steering it, honestly, is just like steering a car. You just steer wherever you want to go. Now, one thing I will say, now we have another four-wheel e-bike as well, our AnyTerrain recumbent and regular. The steering system on that is designed to go a little bit faster and to handle faster speeds and tighter turns. This one is easy to steer but doesn't have the nimbleness of the device on the AnyTerrain because we were focused on max stability and comfort on this particular model. But plain and simple, I shift this into level one, and you twist.
And because I'm not worried about balancing at all, right? Even on trikes, you're not really worried about balancing, but you are worried about maintaining stability. On this, all those things are literally taken care of. There's no body leaning. There's none of that necessary. You steer like you would steer your car. So that's it. You just go and hold your wheel. And then when you want to turn, you just turn like so. And so, There's nothing too difficult about it, really, you know? Now, of course, on these slopes, you just wanna be careful in general, right?Slants, but again, super stable. I don't have to do any weird weight shifting. And you just turn, and that's it. And then it has reverse as well. So you can shift this into reverse, and steering in reverse is equally as easy like that. And you just turn where you wanna go.
I keep saying you just turn where you wanna go because really it's just, it's that kind of straightforward, right? Riding a bike requires balance and weight shifting. Same thing on a three-wheeler. You know, you're not balancing, but you're getting used to weight transferring to keep the bottom wheels stable, right? With this kind of setup, all you do is just turn the wheel. Turn the wheel where you wanna go, and it's gonna go. So, you know, it's the most similar to driving a car or an ATV or even a golf cart, other than the fact that you have handlebars versus a steering wheel, right? And from there, I can start cruising.
And I'll go ahead and make a loop here and come back. And here I come. And of course you got hydraulic disc brakes on this that stop on a dime. So in a lot of ways, steering a four-wheel bike is easier than trikes, depending on the trike that you get. Again, turn the wheel, go the direction you want to go.
