Fold It, Ride It, Share It: A Hands-On Look at the Zip n' Fold eBike and the EVRYjourney Tandem E-Trike

I've spent close to twenty years around bikes and e-bikes, and every so often a couple of new rides come along that make me want to grab people by the shoulder and say, watch this. That's how I feel about the two machines I want to walk you through here: the Zip n' Fold, a 20-inch fat-tire folding e-bike that packs real power into something you can tuck in the back of an SUV, and the EVRYjourney Tandem E-Trike, a brand-new three-wheeler built for two.

They're very different animals. One is about going small and going solo. The other is about stability, comfort, and bringing someone along for the ride. But they share a family resemblance in the way sixthreezero builds them, and they share something even more important: a set of habits that keep every ride safe, whether you're folding up after a trail run or carrying a passenger down a hill.

So I'm going to give you the honest tour. What these rides do well, how the parts actually work, the bolts and brakes you cannot ignore, and the little things I've learned that make three wheels feel natural. Let's get into it.

Meet the Zip n' Fold: Serious Power in a Package That Disappears

Let me start with the ride that surprises people the most. The Zip n' Fold is a 20-inch fat-tire e-bike that folds in half, and the first thing everyone assumes about a folding bike is that you're trading away power for portability. Not here. This little machine hides a lot of muscle.

The heart of it is a 750-watt rear hub motor. If you're newer to e-bikes, wattage is basically the motor's strength, its ability to move you and hold speed against gravity and wind. A 750-watt motor sits at the powerful end of what you'll find on a compact e-bike, and it's the reason this thing feels less like a novelty and more like a real bike that happens to fold. The motor lives in the hub of the rear wheel, so the power is delivered right where the rubber meets the road, and it runs quiet.

Feeding that motor is a 48-volt, 15-amp-hour battery. Two numbers, two different jobs. Voltage is the pressure behind the power, and 48 volts is a healthy amount for a motor this size. Amp-hours are the size of the tank, how much energy you're carrying. Fifteen amp-hours is a genuinely large battery for a folding bike, and that's what makes the range possible. On a full charge you can get up to 50 miles on a ride. If you pin the throttle the whole way and never pedal, expect that to come down, somewhere around 20 miles, depending on the hills you're climbing, how much you weigh, and the conditions you're riding in. Add pedal assist into the mix and you'll stretch that number way back out. The more you contribute, the farther the battery takes you.

Speed tops out around 20 miles an hour, and you can get there two ways. There's a twist throttle at the grip, so you can go pure electric and just roll on the power with your wrist. Or you can use pedal assist, where the motor adds to your own pedaling. Most riders end up using both, throttle to launch and cruise, pedaling when they want more range or a little exercise. It's your journey, so you choose how much of it is powered.

How it handles hills and heavier riders

This is where that 750-watt motor earns its keep. Riders up to about 300 pounds are going to have no trouble getting up serious hills on this bike. The frame and motor can accommodate riders up to roughly 350 pounds, and you'll still climb, but at the upper end of that range you may have to put in a little more of your own effort to crest the bigger grades. That's just physics. The steeper the hill and the heavier the load, the more the motor has to give, so a very steep climb with a heavier rider asks for some pedaling to help it along.

I'll give you my own honest data point. I'm 225 pounds, and I can get up hills on this bike quite easily using nothing but the throttle. I'm not standing on the pedals grinding away, I'm twisting the grip and going up. That tells you the 750 watts is doing real work. Keep in mind that different grades hit differently. A gentle neighborhood rise is nothing. A short, steep pitch will always ask more of any motor. But for the everyday hills most people actually ride, this bike has the get-up to handle them.

Why 20-inch wheels make sense here

It's worth a word about those 20-inch wheels, because wheel size is one of the quiet decisions that shapes how a folding bike rides. Smaller wheels fold into a smaller package, that's the obvious win. But they also do something you feel in the saddle: a smaller wheel gets up to speed quicker and turns more easily in tight spots, which suits a bike you'll ride around town as much as on a trail. The usual downside of small wheels is a harsher ride over bumps, since there's less wheel to roll over an obstacle, and that's exactly the gap the 3-inch fat tires fill. Big air volume on a small wheel gives you the compact fold and the cushion at the same time. It's a smart pairing, and it's a big part of why this bike feels so composed for its size.

Think about who a ride like this actually serves. If you live in an apartment and can't leave a full-size bike in the hallway, this one folds into a closet. If you drive an RV or tow a trailer, it comes along without a rack. If you've got a small trunk, it fits. And if your rides are a mix of paved paths and the occasional dirt detour, the motor and the tires have you covered on both. The portability isn't a gimmick, it's the whole point, and it's what lets a lot of people ride who otherwise wouldn't have anywhere to keep a bike.

What I love about the Zip n' Fold is how it collapses the usual folding-bike compromise. You don't have to pick between a bike you can transport and a bike that can actually pull you up a hill. You get both. Tires, Gears, the Fold, and the Cockpit

Now let's get into the parts you actually touch and feel on every ride. Start with the tires, because they set the whole character of the bike. These are 3-inch wide, 20-inch tires, front and rear. That width is what puts the fat in fat tire, and it does two things. It cushions you, and it grips.

The cushioning matters more than people expect. Three inches of air acts like a built-in suspension. It soaks up a lot of the vibration and chatter from the road before it ever reaches your hands and your back, so you're not feeling every crack and pebble. The ride comes out smooth and, frankly, a lot of fun. On grip, these tires are happy both on the road and off it. The tread is on the slicker side, which keeps them rolling nicely on pavement, but they'll still do well on hard-pack trails, gravel, and dirt. Where I'd tell you to be careful is loose rock, going down a slope covered in loose rocks, that slicker tread can slip a little, so that's not their happy place. On the surfaces they're built for, though, the motor and the tires work together and the bike really performs.

Seven speeds, and how they team up with the motor

On top of the electric side, you've got a seven-speed drivetrain that works exactly like the gears on a normal bicycle. You shift with a trigger shifter at the grip, push one way to climb into an easier gear, push the other to move into a harder, faster gear. Gears one through seven. One is your hill-climbing gear, seven is your flat-ground, go-fast gear. And you don't have to use the electric assist at all if you don't want to. You can ride this like a regular bike.

Here's the part that trips up new e-bike riders. Your gears and your pedal assist are two separate systems, and they work best when you match them. If you're grinding up a big hill, you want to be in gear one so pedaling is as easy as possible, even with the motor helping. But when you're cranking along in pedal assist level five and the motor is really moving, you want to be up in gear seven so your legs can actually keep up with the speed instead of spinning uselessly. Match the gear to the effort and the assist level, and the whole thing feels natural.

The fold

This is the trick that gives the bike its name, and it's genuinely easy. Up front, you pull up on a lever and the handlebars fold down. Then you release a second lever at the middle of the frame, it unlocks, you pull, and the bike folds completely in half. That's it. Folded up, it's about 22 inches wide. The tallest point is around 28 inches if you pull the seat out, which you can do to fit it into a car. If you'd rather leave the seat on, just drop it down with the seat clamp and you're looking at roughly 29 inches at the top. Laid out folded, with the handlebars up front, it's about 42 inches long. Those are the kinds of dimensions that let it ride in the back of an SUV, tuck into a closet, or come along on the RV.

Two more conveniences make daily life easier. The seat is quick-release, so you can raise or lower it in seconds, just remember to clamp it back down tight. The handlebars are quick-release too, so you can set the bar height wherever it feels right for you, then clamp them down.

The cockpit and the brakes

Your display sits front and center and shows you the essentials: battery level, speed, pedal assist level, and your odometer. The charging port tucks under a little flap, flip it up, plug in the three-prong charger that comes with the bike, run it to a wall outlet, and you're topping off. The twist throttle is at the grip. One thing to know: if you leave it in pedal assist level zero, the bike won't run at all, the throttle does nothing. You have to be in at least level one for the throttle to engage. That's actually a nice built-in safety feature, because it means the bike can't lurch forward while it's parked in level zero.

Stopping is handled by Tektro disc brakes, front and rear. These are quality brakes, and they'll stop the bike on a dime. Disc brakes are the right call on a bike with this much power, and I'll have a lot more to say about keeping them dialed in a moment, because brakes are the one system I never want anyone to take for granted. Assembly and the Bolts That Matter Most

I want to slow down and talk about setup and safety, because this applies to every powered ride we make, from a folding e-bike to a passenger-carrying trike. Whether you assembled the bike yourself or had a professional do it, there are a handful of parts you need to get right before your first ride, and a handful you need to keep an eye on for the life of the bike.

First, my honest recommendation: have a professional do the assembly if you can. A bike shop builds these all day and knows what right feels like. But if you did it yourself, don't panic, just work through the critical points carefully.

Brakes come first, always

The single most important element on any of these bikes is the brakes, and especially disc brakes. It is absolutely imperative that they've been adjusted properly and can stop you properly. That's not a place to guess. Inside the calipers of a disc brake are the brake pads, and those wear down over time, especially if you're carrying passengers, going downhill a lot, or riding fast and stopping quickly. All of that eats pads. So build the habit of checking them. I recommend inspecting your pads at least every 100 miles. If you're consistently carrying a heavy load, over 300 pounds of rider and cargo, check them even more often, every 50 miles.

Here's a truth about both brakes and gears that people don't always want to hear: no matter how perfectly they're adjusted in the moment, they drift out of tune over time. Every bump you go over, every hard stop, every mile of normal wear nudges them a little. So plan on getting your brakes and your gears periodically readjusted. It's routine maintenance, not a defect, the same way a car needs its brakes serviced. Keeping them in tune is what keeps them trustworthy.

The bolts you cannot leave loose

There are several bolts on these bikes that are genuinely safety-critical. On any of our electric tricycles and passenger models, the front wheel often ships off the bike, and there's a nut on each side of the axle that secures the wheel to the fork. Those axle nuts must be tightened to the point where they simply won't turn any further. I'm not telling you to stand on the wrench or kick it, but with a fair amount of torque, that nut should not move. A loose axle nut is not something you want to discover at speed.

Move up to the handlebars and there are two more bolts that matter enormously. On the handlebar stem, up top, two bolts control the tilt of the bars, and you tighten them with an Allen key. Get them to the point where you cannot turn the key any further, forcibly snug. Here's why this one scares me: if those two bolts are loose and you put your body weight down on the bars, they can slip, and people can hit their face on the handlebars. That's a real injury from a bolt that took ten seconds to check. So make sure they're as tight as you can get them.

Same story for the bolt that goes into the stem, the one that lets you raise and lower the handlebars. If that's loose, the bars will shift and rotate. And if it came loose while you were riding, you'd lose your ability to steer, at which point my advice is simple: get on the brakes and stop. These aren't common failures, but the whole point of knowing which bolts are critical is that you check them once, before your first ride, and you never have to worry.

The seat, and the passenger seat

On the quick-release seat clamp, make sure it's tight and fully clamped, or the seat will slide around under you. Underneath the seat, on the rails, there are bolts that set the seat's tilt, keep those tight too, because a loose seat can let you slip off the back or slide forward off the front. And on our passenger-carrying models, like the EVRYjourney e-bike rickshaw, there are four bolts that hold the passenger seat to the frame. If you're using a ratchet, keep ratcheting each one until it won't tighten any further. All four need to be solidly tight, because they're carrying real people. The same care applies across our cargo electric trikes whenever you're bolting on a basket or a seat. None of this takes long. It's a ten-minute walk around the bike that buys you total peace of mind.

Riding Smart: Braking, Throttle Control, and Three Wheels

Owning the bike safely is one thing. Riding it safely is another, and it's where a little coaching goes a long way, especially on a trike or any ride carrying a passenger. Let me share the habits I'd want my own family to build.

Respect hills, especially with a load

If you're heading downhill with a heavy load, say 300 or 400-plus pounds of rider and passengers, ease into the brakes as you descend. Do not bomb down a hill at 20, 25, 30 miles an hour and then grab a fistful of brake at the bottom. That's how you lose control, and it's even worse with weight on the back. The braking distance is longer, the momentum is greater, and a panic stop can get sketchy fast. So feather the brakes on the way down, keep your speed reasonable, and arrive at the bottom already under control. This is the single most important riding habit on any 750W electric tricycle.

While we're on braking, use both brakes together and use them smoothly. You've got a brake for the front and a brake for the rear, and the rear does a lot of your controlled, stable slowing, especially with weight on board. Squeeze progressively rather than grabbing, think of it as pressing the brakes on, not slamming them. Smooth, early, and even beats late and hard every single time.

Learn the throttle before you trust it

The twist throttle is proportional, how far you twist it is how much power the motor gives you. That's intuitive once you feel it, but you should feel it in a safe place first. Keep the bike in pedal assist level one, head to an empty parking lot, and just get comfortable with how much throttle it takes to get the motor moving and how the bike responds. Practice starting, cruising, and stopping until the throttle feels like an extension of your hand. Do this with and without passengers, separately, so you learn how the bike behaves both ways before you combine them.

Three wheels steer differently than two

This is the big one for anyone new to trikes. If you've never ridden an electric tricycle, or any tricycle, the steering is genuinely different from a two-wheel bike. On two wheels you lean into turns and the bike sort of steers itself. On three wheels you don't lean the same way, you steer more deliberately, and it takes a little while, maybe a few hours of riding, to make it feel natural. So please, practice steering before you ever put a passenger on the back. When your trike or rickshaw arrives, don't unbox it and immediately load up your grandkids. Get a feel for it first, solo, in a safe open space.

Corner with a light touch

Turns deserve their own rule. Don't throttle through a corner. Back off the power as you set up for the turn, make the turn at a controlled speed, and then, once you're through it and straightened out, roll back on the throttle or re-engage the pedal assist. That sequence, ease off, turn, then power out, keeps the trike stable and planted the whole way through. It's smooth, it's safe, and it becomes second nature quickly. You'll find these same handling manners rewarded across all of our adult tricycles and folding electric trikes.

If it helps, here's the progression I'd follow on a brand-new trike. Ride solo first, in an empty lot, until starting, stopping, and steering feel automatic. Then practice a few gentle turns until the three-wheel feel clicks. Only after that would I add a passenger, and even then I'd start slow and stay on flat, familiar ground before taking on any real hills or traffic. Rushing past those steps is where people get into trouble. Spending an afternoon to build the habit is how riding a trike goes from unfamiliar to genuinely relaxing.

Remember what you're riding

Last thought, and I mean it sincerely. These are electric bikes and trikes. They have motors, they have power, and when you add passengers you're adding weight, which means more pressure on the brakes and more things to think about. So ride responsibly. Be aware, be cautious, and give yourself margin. None of this is meant to scare you off, these rides are a tremendous amount of fun. It's meant to make sure the fun lasts, ride after ride, for you and for whoever's riding with you.

The EVRYjourney Tandem E-Trike, Measured Top to Bottom

Now for the ride built entirely around sharing the road with someone. The EVRYjourney Tandem E-Trike is a brand-new, 750-watt tandem three-wheeler, and it's a lot of fun. It's a big machine, no way around that, but it carries its size gracefully, and I want to walk you through its actual measurements, because when you're buying something this substantial, the numbers are what tell you whether it fits your life, your garage, and your car rack.

Start with weight. The whole trike comes in at 122 pounds. That sounds like a lot until you consider the size of it, at which point it's honestly not bad. The battery accounts for about 10 pounds of that, so if you pull the battery off, you're down to roughly 112 pounds. It's not a light bike by any stretch, but it's a very big electric trike, and the weight is part of what makes it feel planted.

Footprint and tires

Front to back, the trike measures about 102.5 inches long. It rolls on 24-inch by 3-inch wide tires, that wide tread gives you great traction and a cushioned ride. The total width of the trike is 29.5 inches, which is worth pausing on. That's right about the same width as most other trikes out there, and actually narrower than a lot of them, so it's not the garage-hog you might picture. If you're comparing it against our other three-wheel electric bikes, that width is very competitive.

Getting on and off

The step-over height is 16 inches at the front, and the same 16 inches at the rear, nice and low, which is exactly what you want for easy mounting. There's also a footrest in the back so your rear passenger can step up and get on and off easily. One of the real joys of a tandem trike is that you don't have to worry about it tipping while you climb aboard. You can just sit down onto the seat and then slide your foot through, because those two rear wheels hold everything steady. That means seat height isn't the make-or-break issue it can be on a two-wheeler.

Seat adjustment, front and rear

Speaking of seats, there's plenty of range. The front seat sits at 33 inches in its lowest position and goes up to 40 inches at its highest, so you've got about 7 inches of travel on that seat post to dial in your fit. The rear seat is set a touch lower to the ground, 32 inches at its lowest and about 39.5 inches at its highest. So the two riders can each find a comfortable position independently.

The measurement people always ask about

Axle to axle, front wheel to rear, is 77 inches. I call that out specifically because it's one of the most common questions we get, usually from folks planning around bike racks and car racks. If you're going to transport this, that axle-to-axle number is the one to check against your rack. It's the kind of detail that saves you a headache later.

Handlebars built for two body types

Both riders get handlebars, and they're the same mini ape-hanger style front and back. Up front, the handlebar can be raised, lowered, and tilted, you just use a tool to set the tilt and lock it in where it suits you. Measured to the top of the stem it's about 44 inches, and to the top of the handlebars in the riding position it's about 45 inches, so tilting the bars down for transport barely changes the height. From crank to crank, the middle of one pedal crank to the other, is 25.5 inches. The rear handlebar adjusts too, roughly 33 inches at its lowest up to about 36 inches at the top, so around 3 inches of play back there, and the bars measure 24 inches across. The beauty of that mini ape-hanger shape is that each rider can tilt the bars closer to the body or further away, so the same trike comfortably fits two people of different sizes.

Room to carry things
